"This Is Just to Say"...

For you, whom I spoke with earlier, this is just to say--

it doesn't matter. I rarely say anything on here anyway.

This Is Just to Say

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold

  • "I rarely say anything on here anyway." I respectfully disagree. I think you say a lot. I haven't commented on your last few posts, because I'm not sure I understand the spirit in which they were written (does it annoy poets like it does visual artists when someone says, "Ummm, but what's it ABOUT?"?). But by all means, keep posting! I enjoy it when you explain about the thoughts/feelings you had when you were writing.

    Peace,

  • I haven't been on the cyber space much lately, but I always want to hear what you have to say in writing or in person.

I need to catch up with you.

  • Thank you both so much for your comments. I tend always to start to believe that people stop reading this thing when I don't hear back... though I'm usually wrong...

As to Taiko-ma's question about whether it annoys poets...

I can't speak for all poets, but I appreciate any kind of feedback on any of the things I post here... That means that questions are definitely welcome. Certainly confusions, certainly problems... there's no shame in running into difficulties and letting them be known. I certainly run into difficulties... and, shoot, it would probably benefit me to start speaking up about them more.

And besides... as a fellow student-poet in my workshop class so astutely pointed out after our class questioned a published poet on his works--how often is it that you get to hear about the creation/difficulties/whatever that are part of the writing of a work from the writer him/herself? [This is something I'm telling myself as I keep meeting more writers and poets--even those in my class. How can one's voice or question be heard unless it is uttered?] How often can we look inside the mind of another? I can try to do better about opening up... but, maybe questions would help get me started? Thank you always for your feedback.

  • 1. you are never too far to be touched by God, He sees you even now and knows your heart and you better than you ever will know yourself
    2. God gave you such an intense, unique, wonderful, mysterious mind. your thoughts amaze me when i read/hear them usually (mostly because i could never think of some things you say) lol
    3. you are so smart. i think you're one of the smarter people i know. sometimes i feel intimidated reading your poetry and thoughts because i have to really "think" and it doesn't come easily to me sometimes. God uses you to sharpen me and i'm so grateful for that
    4. you are beautiful and your spirit reflects Jesus even when you are sad, annoyed, etc. it's like His likeness is really stamped in you, you can't shake it no matter what. i've always noticed that. i even see Him especially in your smile.
    5. you have friends who will do anything for you - i am one - megumi is another - i would even bet garrett & greg, although they don't know you as well, would do anything for you.
    6. you have this way about you that makes me protective of you, in a good way, too.
    7. i love you for who you are, not who you think you are, who you aren't one day, and what you think of yourself or what others think of you. who you are is something that changes a little over time, and i see you developing and growing right along with me and others, the more i spend time with you, the more time goes by
    8. i pray for you a lot; i wish my heart could reach out and touch yours and you would know the amount of love i have in my heart for you!
    9. God's promises are true, so that means that even this time He is working together for your good. your GOOD. what is your good. who knows exactly. but it's good, by God who is responsible for creating us, for giving us the capacity to create language, and then speaking a reality in to our lives through it. He is your reality and you can rest in His love.
    10. i am praying, peace, over you (luke 2:14) - you have favor.

  • questions to get you started;
    how do you really feel?
    what do you really think?
what is highly offensive to you?
what would you absolutely love to receive as a gift right now? (other than a free ticket out of roommate drama?)

  • B-Go;

You haven't posted in a while; I hope you're doing OK and just really busy with classes, etc. Keep your spirits up.
