weekend festival

The Kind of Thailand's 60th birthday is coming up this December, and the Thai people are very loyal and reverent towards their King. They like festivals, one of which happened this weekend and at which Nora was invited to sing. I went to hear not only Nora and the musicians accompanying her in one of the King's own compositions, but also several young Thai performing groups with their Thai-style songs. Usually, the groups consisted of 8 or so girl dancers and one boy or girl singer. Apparently, it was not only honoring the King, but it was also a contest for these young performers (though not a contest for Nora and the adult choir that invited her to sing).

Anyway. The motion-picture quality on my camera is not very good, and neither is the internet connection in my room... so the video I had planned to put up here may have given you a glimpse of one part of Thai culture. But now, there's just this post and not much else... oh, but wait, maybe I can get pictures up.

Although I loved the costumes worn by the dancers in the group I wanted to show you, the amount of makeup and the gaudily elaborate costumes most of these little girls traipsed around in was a bit startling. Reminded me of Little Miss Sunshine in some ways.

Watch for the photos!
