SOMETIMES I FORGET differences

Greetings!

This starts abruptly. Pretend I've been posting all along... every day for the past few weeks... and it will sound a little less abrupt, I imagine.

Today I attended an extra session of poetry workshopping with my teacher and classmates and we discussed my poem, "SAND... OF ART." Just now, as I went through the comments and things we talked about, I remembered saying about the first part in brackets (the "[Many manuscripts plus many witnesses do not have this account.]" part) that, because that story about Jesus writing in the sand wasn't accounted for by many witnesses and other manuscripts (including the other gospels... correct me if I'm wrong), that

"it puts this whole story into question."

That's what I said in class, and now at home, I realize how bizzarre a statement like that might sound for people who believe the whole book of the Bible to be mythology and/or mere stories that don't stand up to historical accuracy. Or especially for those people who might go so far as to denounce Christ's existence (and where did his body go, because it surely could not have vanished!--they might say). I'm not trying to get into the Bible as completely literal, or as scientific or whatever question. I mean only to draw attention to what my statement (above quote) suggests about me--as a person who assumes truth in the Bible and that the things that the Gospels say that Jesus did as things that really happened... Because this particular story, which "[many manuscripts and ...]" have not accounted, wouldn't stand out as something needing questioning if it were part of thousands of pages of other stories that also needed questioning... Hopefully, your absence from this actual discussion will not prevent you from getting some of my meaning and startlement.

Anyway, this felt like something I could write on here...

Plus, I may have to type much of my writings now (rather than write freely by hand at first), because my left hand has started bothering me... the holding a pen thing... Maybe I could switch to the right.

  • I would enjoy reading more about your faith and beliefs. Also, maybe you could tell some more about what drives you to write, or how you go through the process. Write on anything you want--after all, it's your blog!

By the way, are you aware that left-handers are smarter, more creative, and all-around better looking? Of course, we die on average 9 years earlier, too.

    Peace,

  • i confess, i didn't feel cognitively equipped to read your poems of late, so i hadn't read sand... until now, and i really like it.

i also have been having trouble with my writing hand... not so much as to resort solely to typing, however. i hope you heal quickly.
