fueling my distractions (plus a poem)

I'm supposed to be writing a paper (Nora urged me to)... Unfortunately, I'm not so good at getting myself on task, but thought that maybe this blog could serve as a place for pre-drafting or inventing--even though that's usually the type of writing that embarrasses me most when people see it. I guess I can always remove it if it does embarrass me. Actually, I'll just add a sentence here and there as I get distracted from my paper. (Now that I've begun, the paper's quite fun... I know, I know--that was a corny rhyme. I liked it anyhow.)

So the paper is a discussion about science--the nature of science, which includes and perhaps derives from uncertainty... there's a whole lot of doubting, skepticism, believing, etc. involved, at least as far as I'm concerned.

What do you know about science that you think may be helpful for this discussion?

Okay, I'm being ridiculous. How about if I post the first draft of a poem I wrote earlier today? That might bring more... yeah.

WHY LIFE REPEAT

You told yourself he was alive.
You had had to tell, had to remind.
He was a picture then? A photo now
Before you alive, or really living?
I’ve never seen his photo, though
You tell me he’s alive.

Before she stood before my face,
I heard that she was living. Married
into winter satin, wrapped in the warmth of a man.
He wasn’t quite man in my mind, so how
Could they be married? A little boy had wed
A woman. You told me they were living.

They drafted letters, tales about life
And bodies lit by flames, on fire.
You say they survive, are still alive.
Yet I’ve never seen a photo. How
Can life thrive without dimension? Perhaps the why
You repeat: you told me, you tell me, you told yourself.
