Sticky Notes

At the risk of being ridiculous... or overly-mundane, I'm going to post these next epigrams/notes that I felt free to put in terms of poetry after reading more of Bernadette Mayer's work... she's written a lot of epigrams.

STICKY EPIGRAMS TO A PARTING ROOMMATE

You packed your magnetic poetry, but also mine—
The ones with black lines drawn down the sides.
I hadn’t just taken a marker to your words.

Here are your letters back.
The ones I wrote you while in Germany.
How did they ever return to my hands?

When will you leave,
and how will I
get my key when you do?

When I won’t see you again,
Thank you, Happy Birthday, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
These words still won’t be missed?

Somehow, purple doesn't seem an appropriate color...

  • It's really cool that you try different forms of prose and poetry.

This one makes me think about how, even with the major events in our lives, we still have to deal with the minor details. Sometimes that's frustrating (because it's a distraction), and sometimes that's welcomed (same reason).

    I like it.

    Peace,

  • I like this one because I did close to the same thing in the spring semester. (Situationally, not poetically.) I think the title sums it all up...

  • The event itself is not really pleasant, but I think it's really neat that you have a mean to let stuff out in response to something that has affected you in many ways. And you do it beautifully.
