Addendum to the poem posted below
In reading about Amy Carmichael's ministry in India with women and children from the temple and the caste system, and in hearing about my own Burmese friend's Punjabi (sp?) wedding, the "bangles," as she calls them, or the bracelets we more commonly know them to be, signify worth and status. Things may have changed since Carmichael's day, but the symbolism nevertheless stands. As a woman, you are bought at a price: a price which is known on the wrists and the ankles and around the necks. But Jesus paid that price already--we know it by our hearts; he knows us by our hearts; we show his ownership and his setting-us-free through our lives and our devotion to him. And that faith which is unseen.
Correct me if I'm mistaken about these things. Please.
Correct me if I'm mistaken about these things. Please.
