Pre-regist...

I just broke a rubber band in four pieces. It's not significant, I just thought I'd mention it.

Today I played the comedian in class, when it happened to be "pre-regist" day, which is how the Thai students say it, not how it's supposed to be said. Sounds like the kind of word you'd find with crotch and discharge, but that's probably just me. Pre-register day for classes came unannounced to me both last semester and this semester and it meant that class was basically a waste of time. A few students show up, a few students show up 30 to 60 minutes late, a few students leave 30 to 60 minutes early, and a few students don't show up at all. Those who show up and stay for at least 15 minutes, give and take a few, are doing so not because they plan on paying attention and doing work in class, but so that I won't mark them as absent.

It was hilarious to them when I started calling their names with the added modifier, "Super Late." I told them it was a Super Power and that got them even harder.

What does it take to teach English in a University? That's what I want to know.

P.S. Ants.

  • When I was teaching the 3 week course on pronunciation I was told to use humor. So we read Dr. Suess books and acted them out.
